Interior design and renovation of a 60’s urban apartment in Kalliga Square, Athens. The general spatial arrangement has been keptalmost intact, although the day rooms (living and dining room) were quite narrow. The kitchen is the space mostly rearranged by changing its size, point of access and furnishing. It has been connected with the dining area, giving a feeling of openness and spaciousness. The large entrance area has been preserved, boosting its usage by adding storage space for coats and shoes. The original floors (herringbone timber and terrazzo) have been restored in most of the rooms as well as the sliding doors, which offer spatial unification as well as separation according to users’ everyday needs. The kitchen’s marble sink is reused in its original position and the rest of the new counter tops are madealso from marble, attempting a dialogue with the existing materials.
